  2. No the breakthrough does not live up to the clickbait but it is a great step however as a 50 (almost 51) year old I don't expect to see this work commercially in my lifetime. They are a very long way from that.

I believe one of the problems is that some people in academia have wildly overestimated the rate of bitrot in storage media and have published academic papers using these overestimated values without actually testing and verifying that the results were accurate for modern storage devices. The idea that every time you read a 10 TB hard drive you will have 1 unreadable sector is absolutely ridiculous. At work where I have a few hundred drives I will not use a drive if it can't successfully pass a 4 pass badblocks test were every sector is written to the drive then read back 4 times using 4 different patterns. This test takes around a week for a 10TB or larger drive.

  4. 9:24 Were these flood stories related to the ice melt that happened at the end of the ice age? As a person who lives on land that was covered in ice 10 or so thousand years ago I am very interested in the dramatic global warming that happened to cause the ice to melt. When you are told that the ice was 2000 feet tall in New York at the highest point this is an amount that is difficult for me to comprehend. How much of the water on earth was in this ice? How low were the oceans compared to now?
