  1. Can you talk about the energy losses at the AC->HVDC and HVDC->AC conversion stages compared to the high voltage AC step up and step down transformers?

  2.  @55damien55 I would have expected it to be closer to 10% each way however that is based on low voltage DC->AC. Edit: I Googled and see it works differently than I thought. I see now.

  4. 1:06 it will weigh a lot less going back up than it did going down which should be enough to make up for the energy losses in the system.
