When my Dad was dying a few months ago, he asked to leave this world (he was 94 and just done) they took him off everything except midazolam and painkillers. It took 4 days for him to die. It was horrible to watch. He asked for it to be quicker, but the doctors could do anything as assisted dying is not allowed in UK as far as I know. So my Dad died of dehydration. Its my belief there is no easy way to die, and assisted can be a better way, however We really do need to make sure that the protocol is always followed correctly.
