@jordant3512 We don't need another "cold war" to distract us from the real problems like the climate crisis, poverty, homelessness, hunger and lack of access to healthcare. To most of the world US politics is an irrelevance, at best an amusing sideshow, at worst news about who they're going to bomb next. Money is a construct. It isn't real like people are real.

@Hapenparadise Life is more complicated than "just..." do this or that. I am not compliant by nature and instinctively anti-authoritarian. However I comply with rules like "Don't shit on the carpet" because it is obvious why. I don't want to catch covid. I think it is real and I have underlying respiratory conditions which would make it worse. Public Health and Safety can be a pain but there are worse things. Did you speak out about other wrongs in the past?

@Lynna Oldham I think people confuse public bodies with politicians. National & local government employees do so many good things that make our countries run smoothly, and many regulations stop big business eating us alive, but politics can throw up any number of crazies like the 🍊. From where I sit in the UK, the Democrats are centre right, fairly similar to the Tories here(without the free healthcare) but the Republicans have been going crazy for years, ever since Nixon, I think they may have signed some collective pact with Mephistopheles - I wouldn't put it past them;)

@Tony At Google As far as I can tell, the Trump govt's motivation was economic. They figured it would not be a problem if a lot of burdensome old folk died and left their assets to their descendants and they didn't want people staying home and not spending. Like many govts they realised too late that an immediate short lockdown would have reduced deaths by literally nipping viral spread in the bud. Luckily an unprecedented vaccine effort has hopefully avoided Spanish flu numbers of deaths.🤞 All the high-GDP nations are involved in bio warfare & questionable research of all kinds - it was ever thus, and it is not a party political issue, all US governments R or D are in it up to their necks.
