But the politicians did not act. They were warned. Pandemics are like forest fires. We create the conditions for them to happen but we don't actually create the fires or pandemics, they can just happen by "accident"

I think it's journalists who, in their desperation to have something definite to say or to stir up drama, toxify the work & public statements made by researchers

@truthismysecondname4817 Like the "Theory of Gravitation" or the "Theory of Evolution"? In science the term "Theory" is not the same as the common usage e,g "It's just a theory" Science isn't so much about "facts" as using experiment to test hypotheses. Often initial investigations may seem to indicate something but that changes over time after more work is done. I don't think scientists themselves usually behave as if the body of verifiable scientific knowledge is a "religion". Some people see everything as a matter of "faith" or "belief" and apply that view to everything regardless. They are not a problem of science. They are a cultural/societal problem

@alexpotts6520 Plus the peer-review process and other aspects of science help mitigate bias, rather like open-source software makes it hard for developers to include dubious or sinister stuff. J Harris however has done a video for the World Economic Forum, so literally a paid shill for neoliberals & big business at least once.
