  1. Proportional representation could make politics a bit more democratic. Electoral Reform Society calculated that had the 2019 general election used the D'Hondt regional list electoral system previously used to elect MEPs in the UK it would result in Boris Johnson winning an overall majority of three seats with a loss of 77 Conservative MPs. It could have meant that Jeremy Corbyn remained as Labour leader for longer without the return of Blairites to power in Labour. Proportional representation in the past could have resulted in some Conservative governments not being elected and a Labour general election win in 2017.
