They way to explain this is to have the female applicants for such an event fill out a questionnaire:
1. What is the minimal income you require of a man? Answer options: (a) doesn't matter as long as he is committed, (b) 500K and up, (c) 200K to 500K, (d) 90K to 200K, (e) 40K to 90K.
2. What is the minimal height you require the man to be?
3. If you are approached by a man you don't find visually attractive, you will (a) still converse to see how he is in person, (b) immediately politely let him know you are not interested, (c) school him on how icky guys should know better than to approach.
Maybe a couple more questions, about specific outward features she finds attractive.
The survey results should be polled and shown to the male applicants, who get also one question: what % of the women surveyed would likely give me a chance if I am attractive enough? That percentage is the chance a man has of getting any value out of that event.
Better yet, distribute photos and profiles before the event, and let the candidate participants rate each other (anonymously).
I promise, the results will clearly explain why men don't go to these events.
