The thing is, this idiot y'all are arguing with; he's definitely an idiot. That said do any of you think you're going to change his mind? This is the thing I don't necessarily understand so well about comment sections, even as I myself end up getting caught up in them at times. We're not going to change somebody's mind. Someone deep in Dunning-Kruger land isn't going to bravely adventure out of it. They are going to double down on their particular identity, their pet ideology, their control affirming conspiracy theory or whatever their particular brand of "God damn all that lead, mercury and alcohol Mom sucked down while I was in the womb sure do make me smart. " The greatest theft involving taxation that this guy has experienced was the theft he committed against the education system by inhabiting it and actively refusing to let even a little of it rub off on him. But there is no amount of reasoned or passionate argument that is going to change the lump of fatty tissue he's got between his ears.

But once we get past the simple Aesop that money can't buy you happiness, how many of those people were able to articulate things that they were only able to achieve because they had enough income to earn themselves either the flexibility and freedom or power to have those things. How many desperately poor people in capitalistic societies have the time or the ability to develop and lean into those relationships? The simple racism, classism and misogyny of saying money doesn't buy you happiness is the refusal to accept that wealth in the majority of societies is correlated with your ability to act on your desires and in your best interest. And the less well you have up to a point, the less able you are the less free you are to develop the very things that will give you a healthy self-actuated life. Money doesn't buy you happiness. Money buys you the room, the freedom, the power and the space to pursue a happy life. I don't see anyone lining up to be poor.
