  3.  @bendeleted9155  USAF (who really didn't want the A-10, they developed it to try and kill the AH-56) put so many conditions on the Army getting the A-10 they'd have been fools to take it.

  6. Although some OV-1s were modified with armament in the field, as soon as USAF got wind of this they got DoD to order all armament removed.

  7. USAF's main impetus in doing the A-10 was to kill the army's AH-56. When Army did that on its own, USAF didn't know what to do with the plane, although the ground troops loved it. They kept trying to get it out of service, and if not for Desert Storm it would have been gone 30 years ago.
