Two things here: There was no requirement in the FLRAA program for the craft to be able to fit in a C-17 without major disassembly. . The idea is that if they didn't get ferried on ships they'd be flown where. Bell has shown how a folding mechanism could be added to the V-280 so that it would fold up into the size of a folded UH-1Y. This isn't required for the Army mission, but in a Navy model this would permit them to be based on DDGs. Sikorsky has notaddressed what it would do about mast height to operate them from ships.

@zackthebongripper7274 Sikorsky has only flown six X2 design airframes in forever. Forget the hundreds of thousands of flight hours on the Osprey, at the time they stopped flying the V-280 because thre was nothing left demonstrate, it alone probably had more flight hours than ALL X2s combined.

@blahorgaslisk7763 Valor demonstrated high speeds an Black Hawk or larger sling loads.

@mech____ Regarding efficiency,he Valor has six blades, Defiant has 16. For the type of roles these aircraft will play, stealth is just an expensive distraction. Defiant doesn't have contradictions in its goals, it hasn't been able to acheive many of them.

@dickmelsonlupot7697 Sikorsky hasn't addressed autorotation, while Tilt-Rotors can and have autorotated. Of course, if Defiant's Rotors get clipped or shredded, it's not going to have a nice day either.

@TheBooban defiant is not entered in FARA. It. like Valor, is too large.
1
@jonalmario9835 There's not enough money for both, and Valor far outperformed Defiant

Defiant does not have a "much smaller footprint". Both competitors met eh Army's footprint requirement'

@nobodyimportant72 It fits in the space the Army required.

The reversible prop promises to produce fast deceleration in level (although it hasn't been demonstrated), but you can also get fast decel by raising the nose as as conventional helos do. Something overlooked, though is that on the ground either the troops have to wait for that prop to stop so they don't get sliced and diced, which delays their egress, or the prop has to be stopped while still airborne, which negates part of the advantage it's supposed to confer.
