  1. If China can have its own complete ecosystem, it just means they can now sell these chips outside of China. Qualcomm and other semiconductor companies are in for a bloodbath because let's not forget that China stil dominates in other aspects of semiconductor manufacturing. The only thing they couldn't do was these cutting edge nodes. And now they can, and we should be expecting their EUV machines to come online soon. At that point, China can sell their own CPUs, GPUs, and SOCs to the world and companies like Intel, AMD, Nvidia are going to have to compete with Chinese companies, which typically produce stuff that are often just as good, or even just slightly inferior at far more competitive prices. Good luck to them. I got my popcorn ready. I really want to see Jensen's face when sh*t hits the face.

  9.  @msimon6808  The laser systems for FEL like SSMB are huge. They are size of a warehouse. They are not exactly portable so making transporting them as a single unit impossible, unless you break up the parts and ship them in smaller containers, then reassemble them at the customer's site. That will make it very complicated and risky and expensive because reassembly takes a lot of time and you have to make sure it works on site. You are basically building the laser on the customer's site and anything can go wrong. This is not conducive for an export oriented product. Tsinghua is going for this approach because they are not expecting to export this technology outside China as a product, unlike ASML. Once it is shown that it can work, most likely companies like SMEE will take on the job to build it and fabs like SMIC will just have them built on site in their foundries.

They don't have the techniques or even the machines to do so. And now the J-20 is flying with two WS-15 engines.   12. Semiconductor is a strategic assets. China has no choice but to go head in to develop their own semiconductor technologies at every level because the west, especially America will not allow China access to these advanced technologies. There have been many naysayers in the past that China can never achieve certain technical know how and they have been proven wrong. There is nothing physically stopping China from getting those tech and they certainly have the money, talent and baseline to develop them. The only thing they don't have is the luxury of time and they are likely going to be always one gen behind the west for the bear future. China has no choice but to develop this. A large component of their defense is going to be AI powered spy satellites which will be vital to completing the kill chain for their long range antiship ballistic missiles. Now that America is blocking China from acquiring AI accelerated chips from Nvidia, it is a matter of national security of utmost urgency for their AShBM to be a credible deterrence against US aggression. They have no choice but to forge ahead. It can mean a matter of life and death for hundreds of millions of Chinese if they cannot stop the USN right outside the second island chain when America turn fascist.

  13. It will depend on which supplier will break ranks from the US's imposed restrictions on them. Losing the Chinese market has caused many high tech supplier companies immense amount of revenue losses. Not every company can weather such losses like the bigger companies. Sooner or later, we are going to either see China produces its own domestic alternatives or key companies or country break ranks and do business with Chinese companies. Either way, the US will not be able to hold back China for long.

I think it's deliberate because they are terminally unable to accept that China is doing great and is innovative, creative, dynamic and powerful. So of course they are going to control information flow. "The white man is not on the top anymore!!!" Th thing is China doesn't NEED Taiwan to keep growing and progressing. What Taiwan represent is a wound that have not been healed. It's a political issue, not an economic one. But the Chinese are in no hurry to reunify with Taiwan and they ultimately don't even need TSMC. All China really wants is peaceful reunification and they can wait 10, 20, 50, even a 100 years to do that. But everyone and their dogs in the west talk like China can never have advanced chip technology without Taiwan or the west. Taiwan is a small little province. If you really know China, then Taiwan really is more like a 2nd rate, chronically mismanaged provincial backwater. All US sanctions do is solidify China's conviction and determine, and accelerate their progress because they can centrally planned to focused on project deemed as strategically important. Now you just force China to push their best and brightest to come up with innovative solutions to solve intractable problems. And everyone who bet against China from succeeding on their national project always lose.

We who live outside the western corpo-state media bubble always know China cannot be underestimated and a domestic 7nm node is just a matter of time and probably sooner than we expect. Then, they launch their own rockets, then their own heavy lift and now they have their own space station. 20 years ago, everyone think China's domestic jet engine industry is 40 years behind the west, then they shrink that to 20 within a decade, then to just one generation within another 10 years. Now they have the WS-15 that can allow the J-20 to supercruise and is only is behind western engines in lifespan. People who bet against China always lose.

  18. China took a long time to catch up on jet technology too, and they also missed deadlines. It's the reason why the first batches of J-20 were still using the older WS-10 engines. But they did eventually produced the WS-15 which is roughly parity with the F-119 and just behind the F-135.

This video literally just told you that they have done their own R&D on every level of solar cell production to the point they don't even need to buy western machinery. They are building their own equipment which now outperform their western counterparts. The only thing they are slightly behind is polysilicon purity, which they will eventually catch up. Their solar cells are now cheaper, better, made faster than the west. They already won and you still think they are mere IP thieves, cheap labor and polluters. China is now bigger than every western country and bigger than several combined. It has developed relationships with the rest of the Global Majority that the west can never ever hope to replicate because you people are still in the colonial mindset so you can never truly foster any cooperative relationships with countries and cultures that do not bend the knee to westernisation. China now has over 30% of the entire world manufacturing capacity. It is already a superpower and its GDP PPP has already surpassed the US long ago. Its economy is based on real products and commodities and it has a government that can pivot decisively and strategically, and solve any economic problems without having to bow down to special interests. It already has everything it needs to research, developed, translate any technology into real things, real value, and it has built all the necessary ingredients to build anything at any scale it wants. It is also the most vertically integrated economy and industry. It has enough military power that it has become untouchable even by the combined force of NATO. It has complete digital and data sovereignty in that its citizens cannot be manipulated against their own interests by outside psyops and cyber warfare. There is literally nothing the west can do against China as it will continue to grow and build for its future and bring actual real prosperity for its people, and those willing to work with them in good faith. Perhaps asianometry is just ill, or perhaps even he has to admit privately that China has already won, in a competition that the west unilaterally foist on the Chinese.

  33. It's the same pretexts that the US used for lots of their sanctions, so why not let them have a taste of their own medicine. Germanium is used in high frequency radars as in advance AESA radars so it is not wrong to say it is a threat to their national security. The spyplanes and warships that patrol regularly up and down China's coastlines and beam high powered radar into their lands. Some of these radars are AESA and they have the potential to guide weapons to attack the Chinese people. If we follow the US standards for creating excuses for sanctions, these reasons are more than enough for China to embargo the US from getting their germanium. Of course there are other sources of these metals and if push comes to shove, the US will force its allies to sell them the metals for their MIC. The sanction probably won't work very well and the Chinese know it. We all know it. This is just a tit for tad retaliation. The real pain is from banning companies like Micron from selling their goods in China, and having their own companies out-competing western countries. We are already seeing huge reduction in profits from giants like Intel, Nvidia, AMD, Samsung etc. from being unable to compete in China or having being restricted. This sanction is just icing on the cake.

The century of humiliation is still a large driving force in Chinese mindset and that's when their national security was so weak they were invaded, bullied and oppressed by the west and Japan. China simply do not believe that national security should be based on fear, oppression on other countries and military might. The BRI, SCO, BRICS and various international organizations they are part of, are all tied back to their national strategic goal of multipolarity and reducing the US hegemony. US hegemony is the most direct threat to China. They know that they should not challenge US hegemony directly through military force but rather to erode it over time through economic development, industrialization, self-sufficiency and most importantly giving the world an alternative to US controlled international organizations like the IMF, world bank, NATO etc., and the USD dominace, so the smaller, weaker countries that do not want to be controlled by Washington has a chance to slip pass that control and develop themselves. A stronger Global South means the collective west cannot dominate them and thus reduce US hegemony. It took them a decade since the BRI was founded and various other organizations to become more mature. This is the kind of long term planning and strategic discipline to keep at it that the west simply cannot match. They do all these because they don't want to be bullied anymore. They don't want to be murdered by neoliberal fascists that control the west. National security is very much on the minds of CPC planners, as it should be. But sanctions like this is just tit for tad and don't really amount to much. The CPC are strategists, they think long term, they planned things carefully, and they adapt quickly to emerging situations. Sanctions used like how the west does it, is tactical, ineffective and ultimately self-destructive so China doesn't use it often, and even when they do, they used it mostly to make a point. Only westerners think this is a big deal.

  47. The way it seem, is that the Japanese embarked on rapid modernization by copying, and very likely stealing lots of designs from the west. Rapid modernization ensured Japan had the power to preserve its sovereignty as other Asian nations came under western colonization and domination. Today, China is basically repeating what Japan did while modern Japan, built on its previous rapid modernization, even after the war enjoyed the fruits of its modernization efforts. Lots of effort is poured into the media to malign China for doing what Japan had done, though I predict that once China is caught up, it will innovate its own ways of doing things. Within a generation or two, China is gonna be a powerhouse of invention and innovation built upon a educated strong middle class that is the source of universities and companies recruits. Then, no one is gonna say shit anymore.
