Exactly. Why do people think de-colonialization happened so quickly after WWII? Partly because the UK was finished as an empire and no longer had any real power to maintain it, partly because their colonized subjects witnessed the cravenness and incompetence of the British (and Europeans in general) in protecting them which gave rise to a new wave of nationalism and agitation for independence.

The racism that severely underestimated the Japanese is now in full display as people today are still harping on the inferiority of Chinese and their culture, society, model and methodologies. Worse, the feeling that China must be contained and neutered, instead of being engaged and befriended as an equal partner in world affairs, is leading people in the west to take on an unnecessary anti-China sentiments and postures. Which of course, will lead to alienation, misunderstandings and hate.

@TheAcerstarcraft Yup. The British looked at their colonies as properties to be extracted for resources, labor and prestige. When push comes to shove, they don't give a rat's ass about the people living there. Why should a colonizer died to protect people they viewed as subhumans and why should the colonized fight to protect the properties of their oppressors?
