  1. Americans look at Taiwan like a pawn. China looks at Taiwan as a wound that has never healed from a century of humiliation. One is a perspective based on exploitation and hegemony. The other is based on historical trauma. Tell me which side will have more determination?

  3. The problem with people like Mersheimer is that they are STILL operating on the premise of countering China, containing China, as though China is a threat. China is only a threat to the neoliberal and neocon elites in the west, and these neocons and neoliberals are threats to EVERYONE. If America is willing to cooperate with China, and there are many grounds for cooperation, we will be in a much better place today. The US can still enjoys its exorbitant privileges such as USD as reserve currency, albeit in a smaller sphere. They might not be able to call the shots everywhere but they can still be the big brother in the collective west. Then, we can invest all those money wasted on military hardware and salaries and talents into useful stuff, like combating climate change. But noope, we ain't doing that and it is all the America's fault for provoking a new cold war unilaterally.
