They want peaceful reunification and they know Taiwan will be more and more integrated with China as time goes by. They are not in a hurry to reunify Taiwan and they don't want to kill their own people doing so.

But America does steal trillions from the Global South every year in labor value and natural resources, so what's your point? China did not steal the tech, they bought it by tech transfers. Espionage made up a small part of it and CIA steals stuff for American companies all the time. If you don't agree to China's terms, you are welcome not to come to do business in China.   6. I doubt Japan will really want to fight a hot war with China when push comes to shove. A lot of these calculations made by US strategists hinges on everyone in west Pacific going against China at the behest of the US. I can assure everyone that no one in SE Asia wants a war with China. Phillipiness is just the dumb exception and they won't matter and even then I think they will balk. SK entire economy depends on China and Japan's economy is also heavily tied to China. Going to war with China will destroy all of them. While China will suffer, it won't collapse because it has the entire supply chain within its borders and now it has BRI that stretches across Eurasia and into Africa. Its supply chain won't be fatally threatened by the US and its vassals. In an all out war without nukes, China will win by attrition. The Chinese will be fighting for their homeland and the years of injustice, unfair treatment and humiliation they suffered at the hands of westerners will boil over if the US really attack China. Everyone can make that calculations and they did. Most of the war simulations done by the Pentagon showed even with Japan showing up, China will win at a great cost but they will win in a west Pacific war. You Americans think in the most childish, bloodthirsty and irresponsible ways because you have never gotten your mainland getting bombed to nothing before. So you think your invincibility allows your to do whatever you want and not suffer any consequences. This is not about freedom, or democracy, it is just Americans doing its "might makes right" BS.

  7. The only side that is trying to provoke a war over Taiwan is the US. China already made it very clear where their red line is with the One China Policy, which even the US has agreed to respect on the surface. Yet the US is trying to disrupt the status quo by deliberately stepping on the red line trying to force a reaction out of China. It will be like China putting nuclear missiles on Cuba like back during the missile crisis knowing full well that is the US red line. If you do not respect other countries' security concerns and sovereignty, no amount of talk about freedom or liberty will give you any moral high ground. No one in the west Pacific wants war and everyone can see it is the US provoking one. Only westerners are arrogant and blind enough to believe that the US is trying to protect Taiwan. Yea, by deliberately forcing Taiwan into a dangerous situation knowing full well how China and the Chinese people feel about the island. It will be as though China goes to Hawaii and fund and provide weapons to separatist groups there, then claim that Hawaii is now a country and have the right to secede from the union. To the Chinese, and most of the world, that is exactly what the westerners are doing when they start to claim that Taiwan is a country. If you think China is going to be a pushover, you are going to be in for a nasty surprise. Moreover, China is governed by a highly rational, highly intelligent and disciplined corp of technocrats. If they are really as incompetent as you westerners love to delude yourselves with, then why worry about China? Because deep down you know China cannot be beaten down anymore. The Chinese government is far less likely to be move into making geopolitical mistakes than the US and the west which are more into ideological dogma and purity tests than actually governing their countries. The restrain they have shown, and yes it is restraint over pelosi's dumbass visit to Taiwan showed that level of discipline. They didn't start a war even when their own country has been invaded. On that alone, China only have to bide its time and continue to grow stronger and build alliances with countries put down and brutalized by the west. Within 10, 20 years China will find a way to reunify Taiwan peacefully. If war comes to the west Pacific, we will all know it will be caused by the US, and the whole of East Asia will turn against the US. Even Japan and South Korea will find itself in an extremely difficult position.

Taiwan is not an independent country. It is a province of China that is left unresolved because of a civil war. That is the undeniable fact. If you can make that same argument, then the former Confederate States should be allowed to secede from the union again because they were also an independent country that was formed because of a civil war. That is how ridiculous westerners' arguments that Taiwan is a country really is. The double standard and hypocrisy is plain for all to see, and only westerners buy it. The only difference is China wants peaceful reunification strong enough that it allows the US to keep violating its sovereignty by supplying Taiwan with weapons. It cares more about keeping the peace than killing people to get Taiwan. If the role is reversed, the US would have invaded Taiwan to take it back and killing millions in the process. America with its warmongering ways tracks.

The only reason the US is disrupting the status quo is trying to contain China, and it has proven it is willing to plunge entire regions into war to do that. The US is willing to get millions killed to preserve its hegemony. SE Asian nations do not want US meddling in Taiwan-China internal affairs.

  23. I don't think they need or want 10 carriers. They just need enough to defend move out to 2nd island chain and to defend their lines of communications. Each carrier is exorbitant to build and maintain even for China and it is a waste of money that can be used to build uplift more people out of poverty and to invest in productive things.

And why shouldn't China be paid in technology transfer, they earned it with their labor and sound policies. They were paving for the future to be independent and sovereign country. But the west has a well documented history of colonialism and stealing from the entire world to industrialize itself and then keep everyone down.

China is the biggest trading partner with more than 120 countries in the world, and most of the rest have China either its 2nd or 3rd biggest trading partner. To go to war with China is to literally destroy yourself. So in the event of a conflict in west Pacific, the US might be the one who find itself alone.

No one will want to force a confrontation in the middle of SEA so long the balance of power and access is maintained between the 2 superpowers in this region and Singapore will have to play that balancing game very carefully.

  42. With no one to help Singapore to defend against China will be the worst case scenario for Singapore. Singapore is under no illusion that it can defend itself against a large country like China or even the US. Its military can make it expensive to take Singapore but it is only a matter of time before it will fall. Heck, your scenario while logical, also miss the fact that if China (or US) really want to, it can just sail up to southern part of Singapore and just siege the city into starvation. Bomb the water pipeline from Malaysia, then surround the island, destroy any ships or subs or jet trying to sortie out, and just wait. It's gonna surrender within a month. The only chance Singapore will ever have is to attack first and destroy whatever is coming but as you pointed out, whatever Singapore can destroy will be a drop in the ocean against a juggernaut like China. It's basically what happened to Tyre when Alexander siege the city. Singapore maybe a fortress but it is going to fall when faced with an overwhelming force.

SE Asian countries have some disputes with China in South China Sea that will be resolved peacefully because every side will always laid claims to any land not fully demarcated. China is the largest trading partners with all SE Asian nations and no one here wants any war, and find going to war over something that can be resolved diplomatically to be monumentally stupid. China is not intervening on any SE Asian nations' sovereignty and internal affairs, unlike the track record of the west. No one in SE Asia wants to hear your provocation. Sit down and STFU.

Trying to take Singapore will render the city into a bombed crater and completely pointless and a waste of precious resources. And Singapore knows its position between these 2 powers. Binkov did a fun little hypothetical here and it is interesting to consider but China attacking Singapore is extremely unlikely.
