Imagine Game Science make a game on the American revolution by inserting a Chinese character based on an obscure historical figure that did not really do much, lionize that historical figure, overblown his importance and then use it to pander to a Chinese audience while saying it is "historically accurate". Or a Japanese studio doing the same thing. Yea, I think people in the US will be outraged too. The hilarious part is that there are literally thousands of samurais in recorded history, not to mention fairly famous ninjas or shinobis that can take on this role and they deliberately choose to find that one person that was not of Japanese descent to represent Japan's culture. If they don't want to pick someone too famous, they can pick from the roster of thousands of Japanese historical figures that were more obscure for some creative freedom to write a fictional story. Saying that this is just a game or fiction is a cop out when it is obvious that this game was meant to be a "hard" historical fiction is a cheap cop out. Elevating Yasuke into hero-dom in a Japanese oriented product is like a screwy, cynical version of Dancing with the Wolves. He could have been a perfectly great NPC and cameo.

@agustinnarvaez5251 They also only have a 140 person team. Not exactly a big team to develop such a huge game.

If western "journalists" and reviewers can dock off points from a game because of the lack what THEY PERCEIVED as a lack of DEI, then I think Chinese reviewers have the right to dock off points from western games for not being inclusive of other political ideologies like socialism/communism, portrayal of toxic individualism and no portrayal of balanced group dynamics, no respect for other countries and cultures and using them as caricature enemies, and promotion of UAS imperialism and lack of correct criticism of capitalism.

@fffinisher6298 Wrong take. Just because something is bad, you don't have to bring in other stuff that is not relevant to it. Are you saying there is no systemic racism because it is quite obvious to anyone who live in the system experienced it. If you think about it, cynical pandering thinking that it will make money is a kind of systemic racism.

"That's crazy, how do you do that?" It's western narrative manufacturing. It is hilarious that westerners is indignant at their own academics and media lying when the rest of the world has been the victims of western narrative manipulation for decades. You really believe everything you are told about China? Lol

This whole Yasuke thing is orientalism and cultural appropriation at its worst. Imagine if Ubisoft makes a Chinese AC.

@nuudelz3711 A failing car company today. The best automobile engineering is coming now out of China.

@alexanderbakos5306 He hates the game because it is not western and he is indoctrinated to hate everything Chinese.

A mutant octopus will be less monstrous than what churchill was in real life.

@Clarkeyrules1 You just want to diminish their accomplishment. A very western tactic of coping whenever some Chinese people did something great or cool. Has the same vibe as trump's "I don't that guy, maybe he brought the coffee" when asked about an important figure in his circle that have committed a crime.

@matthewmosier8439 I think it is insulting to be inserted into a product just to cynically pander to people.

If you are on weibo, you know China has freedom of speech.

@fuzzy-02 Tencent also has shares in Game Science too. So Chinese companies cannot have shares in western companies but western companies can buy other countries' companies and dominate their economy? Sounds very one-sidedly imperialistic to me.
