  1. Edgelord movies are basically social luxuries afforded to white men, because they get to fantasize how they can be a one man army on a crusade to right the petty wrongs done on him. The arrogance and audacity to even be able to fantasize about that, that really is a luxury oppressed people do not have. The Joker is a very good movie, partly because Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal in it, partly because it is a modern tragedy brought upon by the machine that chewed up and spit out people like garbage. But I never saw it as a movie about a role model. The Joker is someone to be pitied, and then to figure out how to prevent his inception in RL.

Well said, considering that with China's rise, the world is also slowly de-centering America as the only understanding of idealized model, and it is driving people insane. Insane enough, perhaps to cheer mushrooms clouds over their cities.
