  1. The rise of China and its relative success despite rejecting most of western liberal system probably contributed to the crisis of western hegemonic thinking. Gone are the days that we will automatically assume that western model is supreme and factually inassailable. China has demonstrated that you can reject this model if it does not suit you and go your own way, your people's way. You can create a communism/capitalism with "Chinese characteristics". That probably create a lot of anxiety in the west, especially amount western intellectuals, social, political and economic elites. And I think that anxiety filters down to the common masses.
