  1. A stronger, tougher back and docility was probably the winning combo that allowed this breed of horses to simply supersede every other breeds. I think the likely situation before the Russian breed took over, was that horses were being domesticated independently across Eurasia. Many people probably got the same idea looking at horses and realizing it's potential as a beast of burden. But domesticated also probably result in either a more robust animal or a more docile one. So when the people at the Volga finally got a breed that has both, it allowed then to spread far and wide. Trading and war among the neighboring peoples also helped to spread this particularly amazing breed and people just stop trying to domesticated their wild herds and adtop this winning breed.
