  17. The argument that it's Modi who's leaning toward Putin because of being a right-wing populist is totally inaccurate. The fact is that India has strong multi-party consensus & unity on its stance on the Russian-Ukraine conflict. This stance has nothing to do with Modi, and more to do with India's dependence on Russia for 80% of its military hardware, as well as its dependence on Moscow for its protective veto at the UN. In India, it's actually the Left who are most suspicious of the United States and its motives internationally, due to the experiences of the Cold War. Likewise, you can't claim that left-wing socialist Maduro in Venezuela is pro-America because he's a leftist and not right-wing. A lot of traditional leftist leaders have more suspicion about America and its foreign policy, due to its past history of illicit foreign interventions including recent things like the illegal invasion of Iraq.
