  9. @11:33 - beyond just clubbing us over the head, this show has a single story continuity to saddle us to the same politics across the entire series. This is in contrast to TOS and TNG, whose episodic compartmentalization allowed new storylines to be shown on each episode, while covering different issues and viewpoints.

If I didn't know the story because I'd never seen the David Lynch movie or read the books, then just based on watching this movie alone, I would've thought there isn't much story there to tell.

  22. Arguably, the latest Star Wars trilogy likewise ripped off Game of Thrones (Jon+Dany => Rey+Kylo). No wonder GoT's showrunners were being tipped for a gig writing Star Wars. And didn't the last movie have some coin you could show to get free passage through the Empire, like a coin from Braavos? Too much plagiarism.

  24.  @Pitereczek100  yeah, but a mini-series doesn't have multiple seasons scheduled. A mini-series just tells its story across a small number of episodes and then ends. I think this show may have outlived its original story premise, and now they're just meandering on and on, without that same story to tell. And so they're struggling to come up with a new story, just to keep the show going. When you do that, then you start to look like a soap opera, without any meaningful beginning or end.

  39. After 40 years, we can say this remake has improved the visual fx. But it reinforces how ambitious David Lynch was in trying to tell the story back in the day. Didn't like the bgm in either movie, but I liked the end credits music for Lynch's Dune. They should've tried something similarly uplifting for this film.

  44. ​ @Random User - they're making it to cash in on Game of Thrones. They didn't want to re-do Game of Thrones, which is already an excellent adaptation. They also wanted something that wasn't R-rated, in order to reach a wider audience. So, due to their own lack of imagination they reflexively fell back on Lord of the Rings.
