  1. Maybe it's because solar/off-grid solution companies include various smaller companies who could go bankrupt, etc, and thus represent an additional risk factor for financiers to worry about? I haven't heard of many homebuilders/developers who include the solar/etc as part of the upfront build cost of the home, although perhaps in those cases the banks may treated it differently, when it's part of an overall bundle.
