China's leaders may need communism in order to hang onto their own power and positions, but the outside world that interacts with China have very different needs. The more communism becomes resurgent and ascendant in China, the less attractive China will be to the outside world. So perhaps a China that returns to communism will also return to its previous isolationism from the world which existed in the 1970s and prior.

These student protests started on the pretext of opposing hiring quotas - but when Hasina herself withdrew them, then the Courts mysteriously reinstated them. The attempt by the protesters to scapegoat Hasina by mindlessly blaming her anyway showed abject opportunism.

  20. Hell no - wealth circulates only among Han Chinese, not among the Tibetan or Uighur serfs. Of the latter, their lands are considered valuable but not the people themselves. They don't have the demographic numbers to be seen as worth catering to. No Han really even want to live over there, just like Russians don't move to Siberia.

Those areas however used to be autonomous and had their own independent economic trade ties with the rest of the world (aka. Silk Road). Under Beijing's stranglehold grip they're now just backwaters to be plundered for resources, without cultivating human capital.

He immediately matched his rhetoric with efforts in shifting global supply chains away from China. Beijing in turn quickly announced its new Belt & Road Initiative, which involved copious investments in deadbeat countries with dubious creditworthiness that other lenders stayed away from. As the liabilities of this route likewise began exposing themselves, Beijing's leadership is now finally falling back on return to authoritarianism in the name of communism. Suddenly we see crackdowns on social media & tech companies, and now even looming bankruptcies of colossal scale. Even if Beijing leaders can ride out such titanic shockwaves, what of China's fawning admirers in the West who've invested their financial futures in the China bubble? Will they be jumping out of windows when their investments are swallowed up?

By the same standard, a similar argument could be made that America's own geographic distance from the Eurasian continent compels it to become a Far Emperor constantly meddling in the affairs of these distant lands, under the pretext of defending "freedom", "liberty", etc which are in increasingly dwindling supply at home.

  40. You sound like an expansionist. Are you hoping to push the Russians east of Vladivostok? After the dissolution of the USSR & Warsaw Pact, NATO too should have been dissolved. Instead, pushing it farther east up to Russian borders has only led to the revival of the Cold War that was NATO's bread & butter in the first place. Many top American experts, including Henry Kissinger, George Kennan, Robert Gates, Stephen Cohen, John Mearsheimer, etc have warned that continual NATO expansion eastward would provoke war with Russia. Their advice was ignored, and war has inevitably occurred. I notice that Finland's govt is avoiding holding a referendum on NATO membership, and is making its decision to apply an act of fiat. So much for "democracy" under NATO.
