  5. Well its kinda hard to fully participate in the society when you will always be tagged as a foreigner, no matter how well you learn the language, culture , and customs. Foreigners will always be outliers due to Japan not interacting with them or accepting them as part of their society, so they form their own communities within Japan. This is not exclusive to Japan, other country with a noticeable foreign population have some form of diaspora communities. If the foreigners speak the same language, then its far likely they will stick with each other and help each other first then with natives. Japan is even worse in this regard cause forming friendships or bonds are even hard for the natives, much less so for foreigners besides the superficial fascination thing.

  6. If one doesnt find the use of the local language in their daily life, why even learn it to a fluent level? With Japans special case, no matter how good his Japanese was, he would never be allowed to fully assimilate. He is the nail sticking out, be it his behavior or the way he looks. Just look at how many people think Joey is not Japanese, despite know the language better than a lot of natives. The proverbial moving of the goal post of pure ethno-culturalycentric Japanese nonsense.

  13. Well what they did by banning foreigners was xenophobia, no way to sugar coat that. And isolationism didnt do well for them, as their society stagnated culturally and technologically. Ironically, they dont like foreigners, but its the foreigners that brought their country from the mud to industrialization and modernization, precisely because other countries had international interactions that facilitated advancement and change.

  22. If being critical of societies negative aspects is considered "not Japanese", then no wonder their society is dying. They are all utter sheep that are content to not fight for a better life. But hey, just ignore, It cant be helped, turn your head from all the suicides happening, pretend that the nation is doing well.
