@Tustin2121 His favorite styles are historicism ones and scoffs at anything modern that isn't directly ornamental. To me that sounds more pretentious than having a more nuanced view of architecture.

It shows is lack of critical perspective, even though he constantly talks about classical history, he forgets to mentioned that all those historical buildings get their style from imperial oppressive governments.
3
Anyone bashing brutalism is objectively wrong cause of their preconceived biases and association of the style with countries they don't like.
3
@NihongoWakannai Wrong, brutalism style also came entirely different urban planning than no one excercised before and now. Because of that brutalist residential buildings would always have green space surrounding it.
3
What's more obnoxious are people who copy historic styles instead of making their own. At least Brutalism was something new, and with right architect (just like any building and style) it can look just a great as any copycat historicism building.

Belgrade Fair Hall 1 would disagree with you.
2
@drawndreary On the contrary, a lot of Brutalist buildings have pathways in-between stretches, so often than not you get easy accessible shortcuts that otherwise wouldn't exist in tight building layouts.
2
Most of the time the buildings weren't featureless. The form and geometry gave the building it's details.
1
Incorrect. The largest dome by diameter in Europe is a pre pressed concrete dome of Hall 1 of Belgrade Fair, it is quite beautiful due to its form and the numerous circular windows that let in natural light.
1
Not really, they were only a thing in the 50s before Yugoslavia moved to their own unique Brutalist styles.
1
And I will tell you that the video is incredibly bias and nitpicky with it's info.
1
That's basically Yugoslav Brutalism.
1
Ironic how you talk about brutalism being associated with totalitarian governments and yet failed to ever mention all the classical and neoclassical buildings copying oppressive empires cause they wanna mimick them.
1
@snakeslife-uroborodjinn790 You say that and yet the Brutalist buildings shown have quite a lovely form and geometry to them.
1
You mistake that with stripped classicism.
1
They forget that most of these pretty buildings were done by wealthy for the wealthy first, will little regard for common folk. Just because we can observe these buildings upclose now, doesnt mean they were when they were built. They were very exclusive rich people constructions.
1
He forgets to mentioned that the design principals behind brutalist architecture would often leave a lot of green space around the building, often giving you large areas of urban greenery you just don't get in modern capitalist styles. this would result in kids and elderly having public spaces close to their homes.
1
Yugoslav Brutalism is above anything from Soviet countries. It's funny how he conveniently ignored to show any example of Yugoslav Brutalism.
1
Not really, much more human than current modern capitalist designs.
1
And yet he never showed us Brutalist domes, this is his biggest crime to date when there are quite a lot of Brutalist domes to showcase, enough to fill in a video of it's own.
1
The largest disasters are early modernism and current modernism.
1
Early modernism is completely devoid of any details, and the shapes are boring. Brutalism has a kick to it.
1
Often than not it's the people from capitalist countries being the biggest propagandists against brutalism, attributing it to totalitarian states, even though it started as a style in the west.
