I agree, the proper solution should be improving the rail network and public transit, not EV cars or scooters. Less battery waste and traffic problems.

@thomasreese2816 "nearly" is not completely, battery waste is still a major concern that hampers it from being eco friendly, on top of the electric sources used to power those batteries. Also mining lithium for batteries creates huge environmental problems in many parts of the world that are not worth it just so that Lee and Chang in Taiwan can feel good while riding their scooters.

America needs to first start fixing the urban design mess done by car companies, return dense mixed use zone planning, and bring back public transit such as trams and other rail networks....otherwise any eco friendly solution wont work in there.

@ac1888 I already proposed the solution, improve public transportation so that private motorbike and car use is reduced. You also cant read cause I didnt say anything against electrification in general, but reduce overall use of private vehicles since that will reduce the production of electric batteries and waste associated with them and the waste of old vehicles. Reduce the amount of junk you create by making more efficient public services that more people can use at the same time it takes 50 motorbikes to bottleneck a street. It also reduces the need for parking space cause people are using public transit. For any other place that public transit doesnt cover, bikes and ebikes should be the mode of transport. ebike batteries are smaller and produce less waste, plus if the battery dies you can still pedal like a normal bike, you are not dead on the street like you would be with a motorbike.

@krollpeter The two parties are both the problem cause they bend down to the car industry.

Rather have proper public transit like trains, metro, and trams before EV scooters.

@danielpedersen1688 I dont think you truly understand my comment. I wasnt talking about sorting recyclable material, I was talking about waste that isnt recyclable even after recycling other materials from the old battery. And by replacing cars/motorbikes with electric cars/electric scooters, you arent fixing the environmental problem, you are just creating one in a different way. Not all battery components are recyclable, and the extraction of new battery components causes untold environmental and ecological damage, destroying soil and water while also rendering large chunks of wilderness a giant dead hole. The best solution is to reduce private vehicle use by building more sustainable and reliable public transit.

Electric trains and trams are far better than EV cars, scooters, or bikes, since they are directly connected to an electrical network, and dont produce a lot of battery waste. Seems like Taiwans solution should be to expand their rail trainsport, so that people dont have to use cars or scooters so much.

So how do they deal with old scooter batteries that are no longer able for use? How well do they recycle the battery material and is the eco cost of recycling lower than with gas versions?

@thomasreese2816 I dont see any canopies at those charging stations that are not slap next to a building.

Perhaps introduce level parking lots for scooters in high traffic areas.
