I actually stopped watching this review in order to go and watch the show. Usually these days it's the other way around.
1
Make Rotoscoping Great Again, I guess.
1
My recommendation would be: save yourself over an hour and re-watch Hancock instead.
1
Come now, is it fair to call The Marvels the biggest flop in MCU cinema history? After the re-re-re-rehoots and marketing, it made a net loss of somewhere north of $300m: surely we should recognise it as the biggest flop in cinematic history?
1
And yet mock them for it, while portraying the drunken atavistic savage as the Mary-Sue that you're supposed to like and identify with.
1
I'd expect there's a limit on how much marketing it's possible to do, and even the biggest flopbusters seem to cap out at $100m, so the good news is that a $300m film "only" needs about $800m gross to break even. Also, Disney in particular can credibly write off a lot of it as actual marketing for the parks and moichandise. Point taken though, they're too big to flop, which is why they often do.
1
Whoa there: what bad acting was there in Madame Web? Seems to me that everybody involved stood where there were told, and said what was written, in the least awful way possible.
1
And that's super in theory, although if you can show me it actually working, in practice, against a larger, stronger opponent attacking with real intent, I will award you one Ringpiece of Power.
1
Hang on, be fair: Ingram is a shit-tier actor who was by far the worst thing in Queen's Gambit . Don't disempower her - she's quite capable of dragging down even a decent series, let alone Wanky Nobby.
1
I'm looking forward to forgetting that I've watched the sequels too, assuming that I haven't already.
1
"It's OK when women do it" was indeed THE_MESSAGE for 2021. As I write this in CURRENT_YEAR though, they're now left with the curious corollary "... but what is a woman?"
1
When you can't be bothered giving your Big Sacrifice Character, well... a character, or even a name, just make them an Orientelf-of-vagina. You didn't think that scene was even betterrer than Boromir at Amon Hen? Well, then, you must be a racisogynist.
1
@GulfbeachMateo Cite issues, or GTFO.
1
I'd like to coalesce into Charlize Theron's satisfying hole, but there really isn't much else to recommend this film.
1
Surrounded by overly sexualised children and drug peddlers? Yarp.
1
Oh, Drinker, you marvellous misanthrope, I fear you may be vastly over-estimating the normie audience's susceptibility to marketing for The Message. Wokeanda Forever hasn't completely bombed, and neither has even more unmitigated tripe like Rangz of Power. They should but they haven't, and until audiences really switch off, they're just going to keep doubling down.
1
My main issue with it is that it looks like it has PornHub production values. "Step-Caesar, what are you doing?"
1
Bully for you. Don't, whatever you do, tell us why though.
1
And, dear viewer, if you're thinking "Just skip the marketing budget, and rely on good word of mouth from a preview campaign", well, first your film has to be decent to begin with, and second, all that you're guaranteeing is that pretty much everybody who would pay to see it gets to watch it for free. Both Scott Pilgrim and Serenity tried that strategy, with $30m results in each case.
1
My favourite part is that Atlas is pissing and shitting into her new best buddy.
1
I can't believe you overlooked Strong Female Wamxn of Significant Girth But Limited Aural Ability. Eh, it's a Melfing Pot.
1
Is Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer a joke to you? (Because it is to everyone else)
1
You cannot ungoo what has been gooed.
1
Did you watch a version without Amber in it?
1
I flat out laughed at the first flashback. Was this an intentional parody?
1
To be fair, we do see her training early on. My problem is that the movie needs her to be incompetent for two acts, then she magically flips to Mulan ( new Mulan) in the third, without any inflection point or even a montage.
1
The defining moment was in the first ten minutes when they took a deliberate steaming shit on the basic premise of the entire MCU, and said "Everything you got invested in for a decade? None of that ever mattered." It only went downhill from there. I never made it through episode 4.
1
I can't wait for them to cast a woman with a bat-penis.
1
Imagine pitching a show with "I'm going to take a cast and a character that people actually like, and then write a show so deliberately awful that the target audience will hate it," and having it greenlit.
1
To be fair, they have listened to criticism and cobbled together a trailer that doesn't look utterly awful. To be fairer, they've defiled Interplanetary and so for that alone they must be destroyed.
1
Well, go and loot yourself some Nikes and a big screen TV. It's your culture.
1
Said it then, will say it now: Lenny Henry was the most enjoyable thing in this.
1
Here's a thought. Now that Netflix has announced an advert-supported tier for Poors, and will only get paid if people actually watch their output, I expect we'll see far fewer of these THE_MESSSAGE shows actually get made.
1
At this point "Not as entirely unremittingly dire and dreadful as we expected" is about the best we can hope for from any Disney era Marvel.
1
What were your favourite parts?
1
I'd like to think he's too honest for that.
1
I keep hearing "disaster", but Netflix are claiming 200 million hours watched for season 3, and it bumped S1 and S3 back into the top 10. We don't know what views-to-cost ratio they're working on, but with the obvious budget slashing, it might still be looking OK to the money-goblins. I have no interest in watching it, but normies gunna normie.
1
A rare disagreement. It's OK, and I got through it, but there are no really fresh concepts that we hadn't seen decades before in Miracleman and Kingdom Come. It dragged and stumbled in the middle before picking up towards the denouement, and... urgh... Amber. Come on, man, Amber.
1
Tee... vee ? "Commercials"? u wut m8?
1
That's always been the problem with DC teamups. It's basically Superman and his human pets.
1
She needs a seat at the back of the bus.
1
It was all over in the first ten minutes of Woki when they told us, unambiguously "Everything that we convinced you to care about over the past 11 years is literally a joke to us ." There's no coming back from that.
1
What was your favourite part?
1
Anthony Mackie is a solid 5.9 streaming movie star.
1
I'm surprised that you didn't mention that principle photography wrapped 2021, then they spent (well, squandered) three and a half years in post production and re-shoots as they rolled it in glitter. Yet they still didn't spot or fix that good with the crew member opening the hatch in the shot you opened with.
1
What's the plot? Don't know Who's the antagonist? Don't know Who's the audience? Don't know
1
@PickledPepper01 "One at a time, lads, one at a time."
1
Wait, why was Less Misunderstood Twin's sonic screwdriver merch on the ship with her? Did... did she actually have it on her? Do these spacetards not even understand the concept of the pat down, or secure storage?
1
It's a bold strategy, Cotton, but it relies on having a base to bait. I haven't even hatewatched any of the featured content, with the exception of Wanky Nobby - and I already regret that. I did watch Prey, however, and was amused that their lead "Comanche" is a Norwegian-Spanish-Chinese woman who is only about 1/64th Elizabeth Warren. Why no outrage about that ?
1
If I were watching this, I'd be Team Skroll all the way.
