  1. I left Florida due to high costs and all the rude NYers who came in droves every winter. My dumpy home was 1485 sqft (on a canal and .25 miles from beach) but the insurance was $17k/year and property taxes were $32k/year and my car insurance (my credit is high and zero wrecks or tickets) was $430/month each car (Honda Accord and Ford F150). In Tennessee my car insurance is now $115/month each. The same size house in TN has insurance of $1800/year and taxes of $2500/year.... so Florida prices are INSANE. So glad I moved. Also, my houses flooded twice in the year before I left and you're in constant fear of a hurricane coming and you'd have to pack up everyone, including the dog, and go to another part of the country for a few days or weeks. It just wasn't for me. Nice place to VISIT only.
