  14. If a house sold for 35% more than a year ago, all the homes in the area pay an increase of 35% in property taxes. If your property taxes were $4000 last year, now they're $5400 this year. That's as simple as I can make it for you.

  46. Property taxes pay for local roads, schools, fire dept, police dept, etc. Taxes deducted from pay go to the federal government.
