  1. I’m in Houston. If ur a native like me, ground subsidence has always been a thing. And while Miss Sabine cites studies on geological faults in addition to groundwater pumping, our subsidence has been mostly because Houston is built on top of a literal muddy swamp. But then people before modern plumbing had to dig wells for water. Then modern plumbing came and they pumped water from underground. All the ground water pumping has made the city sink really fast. And we are well know for our flooding problems. Add to all that being the nation’s 4th largest city with almost 6 million people and a lot of buildings and that makes it worse. A long time ago, decades ago before all global warming, this was discovered by our geologists. The city of Houston stopped pumping water from underground. But, the city is still sinking because the city is just too big.
