So, my takeaway is this: Granted, that smoking is terrible terrible and all of that stuff....ok. But, we also know that individuals exist in this world who have smoked their entire lives. I myself have relatives in their 70's and 80's that continue to smoke daily. What is it about their genetic makeup that allows them to be so resilient to the effects? I am very curious about this. I wonder if there is a "radiation resistant" gene out there? The geneticists have mapped the human genome. I wonder if they have found this "radiation resistant" gene? Or at least, is there a common gene possessed by people who have smoked tobacco for more than 50 years running and yet have not suffered the well-known effects of smoking for that long? Very interesting indeed.
