For my finance degree classes, (TTU Guns Up!)😅 we were taught that “they” came up with the basis points because “they” wanted a simple way to denote four decimal places to easily communicate half-percent and quarter-percent changes on interest rates. So I forgot who invented the idea but yah, “they” have been doing basis point for probably almost or at least one hundred years by now. Four decimal places, 100 basis points 1%, or 1,000 basis point ten percent. 25 basis point one quarter percent or a fourth of one percent…, .25%
