  1. no, in our current American capitalist system one is actually still free to bounce from one job to another. A company cannot make you stay, which would be slavery. A company is required by law to pay you. That’s not slavery. Not in the least. Is life hard? yes. Are jobs difficult? absolutely. Do jobs have crappy bosses? yes. Are you a slave forced to stay there and put up with it? no.

So we can maybe reasonably guess from this that his dad immigrated from or escaped from Lithuania during or before WWII. perhaps earlier. or his grandparents immigrated to escape tsarists or WWI
