I'm also 82 and I would rather walk into Death Valley National Park taking my Bible and a canteen of water, walk as far as I could, sit down to read the Psalms and pass away... than go into a nursing home.

@petersorensen4396 Pete, it's my life and entering the last 1/3 of my life, I don't need nor want this abuse.
63
Well done, good and faithful daughter.
15
@ Don't know yet... but my hope is in my Savior.
7
@carification Well written; I went to a nursing home with a close friend to visit his father. I was appalled. And, to your astute point, there also didn't seem any meaningful connection between those in the home facility. It was awful. When we left, my friend said he was so sorrowful he didn't have a home for himself and his father. I believe it is what compelled to write what I did... rather to fade away than put money in another's pocket for the travesty they say is a "nursing home". IT IS NOT A HOME, more like an institution.

@ I've read the whole Book end to end 8 times and I'm doing it the 9th as we write.... along with an in-depth study of Revelation which I'm including all of the OT references by Book/chap/vs along with what I deem the best commentaries from Biblehub, Biblegateway and Jewish expositors. Fascinating work-in-progress I never would have imagined it's impactful illumination.
5
@margiechism Looks and my imagination says it's wondrous. Bless you, Margie.
5
@ To walk a little bit more... kinda like insuring a return trip would be to no avail.
4
@ Clearly, God doesn't play... nor does he forget, ANYTHING.
4
Lloyd, your devotion is a testament to your honor for your parents. Shalom.
4
@margiechism Perhaps a little bit more than 15nminutes, perhaps 3 hours as by then I'd be dehydrated; I thought of that as I do have a large umbrella (I have a very big one, the kind golfers use when it begins to rain on the course; as for the taco stand, I don't think the cooks would be able to handle the heat... which is why I wrote the comment and the venue as the Death Valley.
3
@ Amen and Amen.
3
@ Bless you Rolly. Live a longer life.
3
@ Diana, would you say Moses was negative when he went up the mountain to die?
3
@worldview730 Perhaps; however, would the demented person "feel" or recognize that his quality of life would be a torment he hadn't previously experienced... and was conscious of it? As I am dreadful of that circumstance, I'm thankful that I THINK I haven't been diagnosed with the malady. OTOH, there have been suggestions that I'm already there but in my demented state I'm not aware of it.
3
@AnastasiaRomanov-w9x Bless you Anastasia. I also ride the bus; my only complaint is that sometimes the newer drivers ever seem to be on duty when I go shopping; and they pull up to the curb greater than 1 foot away. My exit becomes a real chore. I take every opportunity to TELL them about it as they have an opportunity to improve each and every time they come to the next stop.
3
@thehappysheep2023 Ever our Savior, our friend, our brother, Jesus.
3
@use-16b-23z Praise the Lord, O my soul, Praise the Lord.
3
@kellychuba My Jesus has no color. Praise the Lord O my soul Praise the Lord.
3
@koreyb I am very saddened by your family's loss. Praise the Lord, O my soul! Praise the Lord.
3
@thebeautyofoldage AS you research, if you do, look at the growing elderly going out into the streets.
3
@ILGuy2012 When I can almost NOT walk... in about 6 years in August in the year and month I was born.
2
@jeromethibodeau4378 Good One Jerome!!!
2
@wisemanwalkingdowntheroad4275 What's the difference between the desert, a mountain top, a deep valley, or walking into the sea? Isn't it all relative to a common end?
2
@ And keep on doing it; there's a great deal of value in consistency.
2
@OliviaWyatt-m3h Trust, that hope of salvation when what we experience in this life fades away. I believe we all have 3 lives: 1) the one defined as the soul without a mind before we come to have existence being as humans (I take this from Jeremiah's "I knew you before you we re born" [Jer 1:5]; 2) the soul and a mind living in the bodies we're in, and lastly, 3) our soul's life we'll forever live where based on the deeds we accumulated in the second life. God bless, Olivia. Shalom.

@ That's what one alive thinks, the dead won't know if it was a vulture, an animal or dried dust what gets blown away by an east or west wind leaving nothing but bones.... eventually leaving a finder?... wondering "What the heck was this guy/gal doing out here in this God forsaken desert?"
2
@adviceelderly I'm already old. And as stated above, I have my plan. If you're NOT old, then follow your own advice.
2
@AnastasiaRomanov-w9x Keep it up.
2
@AnastasiaRomanov-w9x Anastasia, my bad, a writing contraction; just trying to save space.
2
@onion6foot 6 Grand a MONTH!!! Children can hire a nanny and you can stay at home for that rate.
2
@kathytarver2133 Duly noted, Kathy. Thnx and blessings to you. Praise the Lord O my soul Praise the Lord.
2
@SushilaPatel-i1p And the right thing is what you think is right (false brewings). What's right? That's an age-old question so many ask but so very, very few answer.
1
@ The difference is this long walk would be flat terrain... something like "Dead man walking".
1
@ Fair weather Gloria.
1
@ I never meant it to be a congenial comment; my focus was to have children harbor a thought about how to care for parents and , not forget them. OTOH, just as Gail Ruppert stated above, Moses did what he wanted to do when he knew his time was up
1
@ Wonderful thought.
1
@ILGuy2012 He provided me the courage to plan it and see it through. It's like the old Indians of the American West and were alone. They'd just walk out of the camp and keep walking until their either their legs gave out or fell victim to wild animals or just died in their sleep... which is my plan.
1
@cdnamerican9646 You honor him by remembering him.
1
@johnbatch9276 ???
1
@ That's for sure Lauren.
1
@ That would be delightful.
1
@barbarabarclay6769 Thnx Barbara.
1
@tenn-gran9734 I trust you live in Tennessee; I love that state. I worked in a small town called McKensie. I'd fly into Memphis and drive east to the town.
1
@petersack5074 Pete, don't forget to give thnx. Are the books different versions? I really enjoy the original KJV and recently the CJB.
1
@kateburk2168 Funny you should say that Kate; the first thing I noticed as I got older was my loss of mobility.
1
@ OK, I apologize if I offended; however, to offer what I remember - So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab over against Beth-peor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. Deuteronomy 34:5-6.
1
@ Sharon, I appreciate your closing thot. It's the trip, else called your life, that matters as you already know the Destination

@AnastasiaRomanov-w9x As a matter of pure fact Anastasia, I don't belong to any denomination. I looked for a place that kept the Sabbath Day but found none. I went to the building once about 2 years ago, but it wasn't occupied by anyone. And it was about 50 miles away. So, when I wake in the morning, I vocally say "Praise the Lord"; then start my study: 1st the Psalms, 2nd, I'm finishing Haggai, and finally, I finish my day with my in-depth study of Revelation. I think I selected the last book as what's happening all around us prevailed upon me to know what the signs of the times would unveil before my eyes and say "The time is VERY near."

@sharonepederson456 My mother and aunt wanted to name me Ernest after my uncle Ernie. My Dad, otoh, wanted to name me Paul. My mom and aunt ganged up on my dad and I wound up with the name Ernest. HOWEVER, when I got older I realized that my Dad had actually named me after all. You see that in Spanish, Ernest actually means "to be earnest" so in Spanish my name is interpreted as Paul, the earnest one.
