@thebarkingmouse Except Dragon has to be 100% perfect the first time and every time, no failures may ever be allowed. Yet SpaceX did not take decades and billions of dollars to develop it. This is because they hire engineers, rather than bureaucrats, and aren't mandated to use external contractors the way the military is.

The electronics would also have to withstand a huge voltage potential across the shell, and the associated magnetic field. It would be better to just shoot chunks of steel and shoot a lot more of them, compared to a guided projectile that costs as much as a missile. For now, the biggest problem I see with the technology is erosion of the rails.

@Jason_Family_Man It tells us that the Apollo hardware is real and capable of landing on the moon, rather than simply being a very expensive distraction that goes on a suborbital flight into the ocean.
