  1. Wigwags should be brought back, but only in historic districts. They would need to be updated to be more reliable, so the signal will always be known.

  2.  reverse thrust  Some crossings have electronic bells, others have mechanical ones, some have both. There should be a modern variant of the wig-wag signal for use in historic communities.
