Likely due to the low capacity of the relatively primitive lead acid batteries, the inefficiency of the old brushed motors, and the low top speed, as well as the fact that it would take many hours to charge. Power was also very expensive and charging probably required an inefficient rotary convertor.

  3.  @Stefan-yt6ed  that would need a minimum of 3 wheels or it couldn't keep itself pointing in the right direction once the engines are turned off. Same applies to space stations.

  4. To go to space, you have to super glue some solid fuel engines to the sides of the car, and wire the igniters to the parking brake. Use the primary drivetrain as a reaction wheel.
