Eggs were laid there where the maggots then hatched....already being sterile exactly because they did NOT come out of a dumpster or a dead carcass. The flies that laid the eggs may not have been sterile but the maggots would be as close to hospital-grade sterile as one could get and are much better than no maggots. Therefore, they will not "kill your ass". So: yes really.

We already established flies would lay eggs from which the maggots would hatch and therefore be somewhat sterile...much more sterile than your idiotic strawman argument of pulling maggots straight out of feces and putting them in a wound. Thirdly, I asked you a question relevant to the topic at hand that you don't seem to want to answer: if you were in a position (like Hugh Glass was) where you had a good 99% chance of dying slowly and miserably from certain infection OR taking your chances with wild maggots and hoping that the maggots that you got would not be a species that "would kill your ass", which would you choose? I would choose taking my chances with the maggots.

That's the question here that you keep refusing to answer for some reason and keep trying to find ways to put words in my mouth and continue asking completely irrelevant questions like "Was Hugh Glass an insect specialist?". Why won't you answer the simple question Mark?: in such a scenario as Hugh Glass was in, would it be better to risk gangrene and worse infection most likely leading to a certain, prolonged, painful death because "wild maggots WILL kill your ass"? Or would you take your chance with these wild maggots? Not maggots from a corpse, not maggots from feces (wherever that happens) not maggots that you know FOR SURE have been tested positive for life threatening bacteria/viruses, not maggots that are known screwfly larvae, just plain old, unidentified wild maggots that hatched from an egg onto you. Would you take your chance with them or watch your legs and arms rot away until they fall off while you suffer and die with fever, extreme diarrhea, etc.? It's a very simple question Mark and I don't understand why you keep dancing around it and keep coming up with all these scenarios that NOBODY ever said. Because what you said wasn't "maggots don't necessarily eat ONLY dead flesh", what you said was "wild maggots WILL kill your ass". Just answer the question Mark.
