In Britain fewer people have coffee makers because they have kettles and they can make coffee in a cafetiere, which is a cylindrical jug with a push down filter; just put the ground coffee in the jug, pour in boiling water from the kettle, wait 2 mins, push the plunger to remove the grounds, and pour out filter coffee. I use a double-walled stainless steel.

  2. The hot water tanks are called Boiling Vessels in the military (BVs) and are fitted as standard to all British armored vehicles so the Brit soldiers can always have tea. Only problem is they run on a 12v system so the first "cuppa" takes an hour. After that you've got gallons of boiling water for the rest of the day.
