  1. Consult your subconscious; what does your inner monster look like? Mice are programmed to fear cats; rabbits fear foxes. Our programmed enemy is not lions or tigers or bears or wolves. They all look cuddly to us and we want them as pets. We have an instinctive fear of spiders, snakes, scorpions but our main inner monster is: bipedal, hairy, stronger than human, forest dweller, a voracious nocturnal carnivore which kills and eats humans, especially dangerous at the time of the full moon. It is not seen in the daytime and fears fire. Our best friend, the dog, can detect them before we can and warns us by barking if the approaching stranger is one of "them". The domestication of the dog is probably why we exist at all; the Neanderthal was essentially a carnivorous gorilla which could easily run down a human. The war against the Neanderthal was one we should by rights have lost.
