The Chinese do not have the resources to sustain a post-industrial population of 2 billion consumers. They will either be a country of perennial producers or they will need to import on a massive scale. I think they'll eventually begin exploiting the resources and human labor of Africa on an even larger scale than they already are now.
"American" corporations are not American, they are rootless multinational firms, so whether they are currently investing more in Chinese markets or Western markets is irrelevant. They invest in both and manufacture wherever it is most profitable to do so. If Western governments begin heavily tariffing China, the Chinese are fucked. If they don't play ball, multinationals will then manufacturing in countries that are more willing to extend free trade deals. India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, etc. All of these countries have massive labor forces and would be more likely to play ball than the Chinese. The Chinese economy will implode whenever we want it to.
I think we should invest in the Americas and encourage growth in Mexico, Central America, and Brazil, but that is just my opinion. Maybe if Hispanics had jobs in their own countries, they would stop invading mine.
