The way the media and the political class fawned over him was the most vomit-inducing thing. People who believed him should be ashamed of themselves, but shame requires a moral compass, so I guess that'll never happen.

@alexis1156 Because the elderly eventually become vulnerable when they lose their physical and mental faculties. The elderly are commonly abused by family members and defrauded by scam artists. They are also often incapable of working and sustaining themselves. They deserve some amount of protection and respect. A society that doesn't respect and protect its elders is a society without honor.

@alexis1156 No it doesn't. It means they deserve to be protected the same way children are. Your lolbert individualism has reached the point of cruelty and greed if you think children and elderly people should be left to fend for themselves and not given some measure of assistance. Many a person who disavows reasonable social systems (and portrays them as some kind of theft their entire life) end up being dependent or even exploiting those very systems eventually. Social security is the only form of welfare we have where the recipient pays a separate tax and their benefit is dependent upon their earnings. Oh, and I don't need a lecture on respect. You're probably half my age and haven't accomplished a quarter of what I've accomplished, and yet I would still give you the common decency (respect) that anyone deserves. I've found that the people who advocate for some kind of anarchist system tend to be the ones who would end up dead or enslaved in such a system.
