@michaeljorgensen790 My job involves reading people, and I had the same thought just by reading his body language here. You were just able to put it into much more concise language. There seems to be an arrogance in Eric that might be rooted in some kind of feeling of inadequacy and/or envy of greater minds (vulnerable narcissism) or maybe, as you said, he does simply have a gross overestimation of his own abilities that is rooted in basically thinking he knows everything because he doesn't realize there is so much that he doesn't know (Dunning Kruger).
