  3. Great vi and a brave effort - well done. I think you hedge you bets a bit with some of the conclusions. Like in the problem of evil. The conclusion is that there simply is no god. This is even more the case if you apply the purpose of suffering to nature, to animals. All defences I’ve heard are caltrop arguments designed to reassure ‘the choir’.

  4. So, I’d heard about this but I’d thought it was a myth. They just wouldn’t do that. We’re civilised and have rights and freedom. That sort of thing only happens under totalitarianism and oppressive regimes. Doesn’t it…….? As for the statement that Japan surrendered because of the A Bomb attacks it is quite easy to make a case that it didn’t. In fact, the Japanese at the time were quite prepared to have the Sun dropped on all their cities as long as the emperor god was saved. The threat of invasion by Stalins USSR - the guys who shoot emperors - was far more of a motivation and even then many in the army opposed surrender with force. Another interesting factoid of the WW2 A bomb story is that Churchill bribed Roosevelt with all the UKs Atomic research (allegedly more advanced than the US effort) in order to get the use of the MV Ohio for the upcoming Operation Pedestal effort.
