What a beast. Convair next? Incidentally, I was reading a book about the atom bomb development and I found that the B29 had so many teething issues that there was a contingency for RAF Lancasters to drop the Bombs. In fact, it was only politics that pushed the B52s into the final attack as it was thought it wouldn’t be ready in time.

@gort8203 I see. The book I read was saying that the ‘sensible thing’ was to go with the Lancaster option as too many issues were outstanding with the ‘29’s and the possibility that it might not be ready in time was real. However, some US brass felt that it absolutely must be a US only show (despite all the non us allied boffins involved) and insisted they go with the B-29 option and basically crossed fingers (and toes) that I’d be ready.

@gort8203 People seem so keen to take anything as a personal affront to their patriotism. As I clearly said - I’m quoting from a book I read. However, the possibility that some anti- Anglo sentiment effected somebody somewhere judgement isn’t “ridiculous”. Ask any Martlet pilot in the FAA.

@eugenemurray2940 oh bloody Feltam is getting to big for his boots these days! Apart from the fact he’s about as tall as a milk bottle, bless. He does decent stuff though - tbh:)
