It is not how much you spend relative to nations that spend almost nothing on their own militaries, such as most of Europe but also what the money is being spent upon. Much of the DoD budget is not used to buy weapons, ammunition, tanks, artillery, ships and planes but goes for pay, benefits, civilian contractors, massive bureaucracy, green energy, inactive bases and a procurement system that is broken. If we went to war with a near peer nation such as China or Russia or multiple smaller nations like N. Korea and Iran, we lack the military industrial base to supply our armed forces with basic ammunition for more than a couple of months...not good.

  9. We do not have a bloated military. Our defense spending is half what it was in 1989. We no longer have an industrial base to produce weapons to sustain the military in a conventional war for more than a couple of months. That is telling.
