  1. Switzerland is hardly unconquerable. It is not necessary to directly assault the country but merely cut it off from trade and commerce. It is highly unlikely the population could survive without substantial food shipments and therefore would be forced to surrender. If the Nazis would have sought to do this for example, when they controlled all the territory surrounding Switzerland in WWII, what would have been the result? Also, a strategic bombing campaign could also prove effective, as well as nukes, or an EMP. There are so many alternatives that could be employed without directly attacking the country.

  2. Spending is not what it seems. Money spent is not equal across the globe. Also, much of US spending is used to for it highly paid troops, provide benefits and social programs for families and Vets. This is very different from China for example or the tiny militaries of the Europeans.
