The argument for providing and supplying Ukraine with money and weapons is fairly straight forward. Defeating Russia in Ukraine will set back aggression, not only from Russia, but worldwide. If Russia succeeds, Ukraine will not be the last nation attacked by Russia. Likely Moldova and then the Baltic States will be next as potential victims. Also, China will likely be emboldened regarding aims against Taiwan, its islands in the S. China sea and other aggressions. Iran, too would probably see a Russian victory as a sign of US weakness and that of the West and continue its provocations in Yemen, Iraq, Syria etc...
It is important in Ukraine to keep the fight there, bloody the Russians badly and then make Ukraine a military bulwark against Russia.
You cannot operate foreign policy from a position of fear. If Russia uses a nuke, it is game over. The argument what if Russia uses a nuke, is always present and if taken at face value, would paralyze US foreign policy and would have done so, during the Cold War had we followed this line of thinking. Reagan's rollback approach v. the USSR was criticized exactly for the reasons M. Paul is outlining. Again, you cannot operate a foreign policy from a position of fear.
