  1. Oil was important but I would challenge the notion that it was the reason, the Germans lost the war. Oil became pivotal only after the war was already lost in 44 and 45. Germany lost the war by failing to win a victory in 41, 42 or 43. If the USSR had been defeated in 41 or if other decisions had been made, like not declaring war on the USA, Germany and its lack of oil would not have been particularly relevant.
