  1. You have not really lost a tank if it has been repaired at the end of the day. A tank is not dead if it's not dead. It's like a soldier being wounded but still fighting.

  2. Could the Russians have won the war without Lend Lease? It seems by 43, the USSR was badly bled and depended more and more on Western/US food stuffs, trucks, chemicals, medicines, factories, radios, trains etc... basically everything except for oil, artillery, tanks and planes. Without all of this STUFF, it seems extremely problematic that the USSR could have really gone on the offensive and or even survived in a protracted struggle sans Lend Lease.   3. Great generals are consistent winners regardless. Victory is the metric by which you judge generalship. The only exception being when a great general is simply being overwhelmed. Tactical and strategic ability is also important. Montgomery also was mediocre, who constantly relied on attrition to win his fights. You can't be great if you are not able to take risks. Patton was a mediocre general though perhaps the best of the Americans in the European theater. Soviet generals were butchers and used numbers to overwhelm even in conjunction with encirclement/maneuver tactics. Constant losses at 4:1 was acceptable to the Soviets in their battles. The best generals are undoubtedly German in WWII. Manstein, Rundstedt, Guderian were all vastly superior to any allied generals.

  4. Kursk is more important than Stalingrad. Stalingrad was a singular defeat but not a strategic victory. Kursk changed the war and from then on, Germany was on the defensive.
