  2. Diversity means diversity according to the Virginia Congress woman. What does that mean? Also, assuming we understand that idea, why, do we need to have a military and officer corps which reflect the diverse make-up of the USA, whatever the hell that means? Does that mean superficial characteristics? Is it height, weight, gender, baldness, intellect, education? What foolishness this word represents! Diversity is not strength. This motto is just wrong. Our national motto is E pluribus Unum, out of many one. We seek to be one, not diverse. Every nation and civilization that is 'diverse', whether linguistically, culturally, religiously, racially etc...has had major problems. Canada has almost divided twice over language, with Quebec voting only 51/49 to stay in the country during the last controversy. Belgium also has been constantly divided over language between French and Flemish. We just witnessed the massive riots in France largely along class, race and religious lines. There are 100s of examples currently and through history to demonstrate this point, the Balkans being perhaps the best in recent memory, or perhaps Rwanda. The first casualty of the Revolutionary War was not a Black man. She is likely referring to Crispus Attucks who was shot and killed in the Boston Massacre, along with four other men, which happened in 1770, five years before the beginning of the Revolution. Black men did serve in the military before the Civil War. During the Revolution, approx. 5000 Blacks joined the Continental Army by the end of the conflict. Everyone knows that Blacks were discriminated against in the past. However, this is illegal today and has been for some 70 years, so referring to wrongs of the past, says nothing about the situation today. Slavery was not a sin nor was it the original sin for the United States. If so, then it was the original sin for every nation on Earth, since the beginning of time.
